What do you know it’s that time again, time for another squad article. If you are keeping count like me we are now up to 24-men, and it’s time to find out if any changes have been made. As before the team will play with a DH but, we are moving on up to a 4-man pitching rotation. Also remember the stats you see below are indicative of their career averages. Just a quick heads up, Squad articles will now be a theme on Tuesdays and Out of Left Field will now become a thing on Sundays.

CL. Tim Crews (3-3) (3.44 ERA) (70 SO) (2.69 K/BB Ratio) (4 SV)

Summary:

The squad now has a decent 1-2 combo in Crawford and Finley bringing both speed and power to the top two spots in the order. However, this meant that someone had to get moved to the bench, and that so happened to be Dmitri Young. As much as it pains me to do it, Ryan Klesko is a better hitter and can play 1B. However, with Young being a switch hitter that means we can platoon him with Klesko against left handed pitchers. Also with the addition of Finley we now have 4 Gold Glove winners on the team with Finley, Crawford, Gaetti and Alomar.

The Bench gets deeper with the addition of both Dmitri Young and Mike Matheny. I can now rest Alomar and not lose anything on defense with Matheny. Oglivie and Young can both bring power of the bench as well as versatility. Mark Ryal is again the utility man that can play any position I need him to. Pokey Reese is the designated pinch runner and also the guy I can use to give both Gantner and Templeton days off. And Wes Swackhamer is once again driving the team bus to the grocery store to make sure we are stocked up on Gatorade.

The rotation gets a new addition in the form of Mark Prior. I know I said I wanted to keep stress off his arm, but at this point it makes more sense for him to be in the middle of this rotation. The bullpen gets some added depth in the form of Les Lancaster and a new closer in Tim Crews. While not the 2014 Royals, this bullpen should be able to hold its own when called upon. Let’s just hope that the trio of innings eaters at the top of the rotation can limit the bullpen’s usage.

And with that version 3 of the squad is ready to go.
